The Hash House Harriers (HHH) is a worldwide network of running clubs organized and run at the local level. Each club has its own personality and members are encouraged not to take the runs too seriously, although it is possible to do serious running on the courses selected. There is a small fee for each run, to subsidize the drinking activities that follow.

The Hash is a great opportunity to be outdoors, discover new places and make new friends, both Indonesians and expats. You become a member just by showing up. Within Jakarta there are several groups that run on different days of the week, so chances are there could be one that suits your schedule.

Trails are usually well marked and detailed directions supplied prior to runs. Hashers like a good trick now and then so if you’re a newbie, ask fellow hashers about some of the more common ones that take place on runs.

Bogor HHH: Husband and wife team and owners of ESTA Outdoor Sports Store, Awei and Pingkan Jans, coordinate the Bogor Hash. Runs are every Tuesday at 4 p.m. Email pingkanjans@gmail.com

Jakarta HHH: This hardcore mixed group meets every Monday at 5 p.m., rain or shine. Email Ronald at rpate.becak@gmail.com to receive the weekly schedule and visit the Jakarta HHH Facebook page.

Jakarta Hash House Harriettes: The “Pussy Hash” (have we mentioned Hashers’ have a sense of humor?) meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. The ladies lead the run, though men are welcome. Email Rosita at rosita.verdooren@multisarana-bm.com

TGIS Hash House Harriers is another Jakarta-based mixed adult hash that runs every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at 4 p.m. It used to be called TGIF when runs were held on Fridays but changed to TGIS when they moved to Saturdays. Email Gladys at byen07@yahoo.com

Batavia Hash House Harrier Hoons (BH4) This strictly male group runs every Thursday at 5.00 pm, except on the last Thursday of every month when there is a mixed run. Beer drinking and games are a strong feature of this group. Email Peter at petergardiner1408@yahoo.com

Hash House Horrors: A family kid-friendly group that meets on the last Sunday of each month. Learn more here.
