As you get closer to Taman Safari you’ll notice stall upon stalls selling bundles of carrots to feed the animals. Naturally you buy a few and right after the entrance into the safari you’re greeted by big signs saying, “Please don’t feed the animals!” But you’ll feed the animals anyway cause that’s what everyone else around you is doing. And it’s a lot of fun, mostly because you get to do it all in the comfort of your car while driving through the park.

There are zebras, giraffes, rhinoceroses, hippos, bears, orangutans, peacocks, lions, tigers, elephants and camels, to name a few. The lion and tiger sections are the only time you are strictly asked to keep your windows closed at all times.

The safari isn’t the only fun to be had – there’s a theme park right outside the exit from the safari, where you can go on rides and catch animal shows. You can ride an elephant, watch a bird or dolphin show, or go on a pony ride. And if that weren’t enough, there is a water park and a night safari. Clearly you’re meant to go home as tired and content as you possibly can.

Tip: The best time to visit is in the mornings, during the week. Weekends and school holidays can get rather busy. Count about 45mins-1hr from Bogor, and 1.5-2 hours from South Jakarta.
